The Challenge

The resident had limited mobility and spent most of his time seated or in bed. Kitchen work surfaces and floors were obstructed by clothes and items, the hallway was cluttered, and the bathroom required cleaning. Strong smoke odours were present, along with flies and concerns about vermin.
Additional risks included no heating, unsafe plug-in heaters, a front door that did not lock, and unresolved maintenance issues. The environment posed immediate health, security, and trip hazards, requiring urgent intervention.

The Process
Our team carried out a care-led, low-distress hoarding support clean, focused on improving safety and usability rather than full clearance.
Non-salvageable items were removed, and all key areas — kitchen, bathroom, hallway, and bedrooms — were deep cleaned using hospital-grade disinfectants and HEPA-filtered equipment. The resident was relocated to a brighter front bedroom with a closable door to help retain warmth and improve comfort.
Full PPE was worn throughout, and all waste was handled in line with regulations. Additional essential items were provided to support comfort and daily living.
The Result

The kitchen was restored to usable condition, floors and walkways were cleared, and hygiene levels improved throughout. Fire and trip risks were reduced, and the resident reported feeling safer, warmer, and happier in the reorganised space.
