Biohazard Career Change
One of the highlights of last week had very little to do with cleaning — and everything to do with courage. This is the story of Director Laura and her career as a BioHazard Cleaner—Director Laura career as a BioHazard Cleaner has been nothing short of inspiring. Moreover, it is the story of her journey to become a BioHazard Cleaner.
Laura was completely surprised when her partner, Jerry, contacted a local radio station that was running a segment about people changing careers later in life. At the time, Laura had no idea he’d done it. However, it would soon become a key moment in Laura Hastie’s journey as Director and Founder. It ultimately inspired her decision to be a BioHazard Cleaner.
The first she knew about it was when Jerry received an email back from the radio station.
He was absolutely thrilled.
Laura, on the other hand, was understandably apprehensive.
Speaking openly about a career change, starting a new business, and the realities of working in biohazard and trauma cleaning isn’t easy — especially live on the radio. But despite her nerves, Laura agreed to take part… and she was amazing. The director and founder Laura Hastie deserves recognition for embracing her journey to become a biohazard cleaner.
From Corporate Life to Community Impact
Why Laura Became a BioHazard Cleaner
Laura spent around 20 years working in the corporate world, within a sales-based company where she gained experience across almost every area of the business. Her role covered everything from day-to-day operations to accounts, credit control, finance, and ordering. Remarkably, the journey to become a BioHazard Cleaner began for Laura Hastie, our director and founder, after so many years in corporate life.
When the company was eventually bought out, it became a natural pause point — and a moment for reflection.
Rather than stepping into another similar role, Laura decided it was time for a complete change. One driven by independence, purpose, and the desire to do work that genuinely helps people.
The Spark Behind Pocket Rockets East Anglia
For a couple of years before starting the business, Laura had been following stories and videos online showing people helping hoarders, carrying out welfare cleans, and supporting vulnerable individuals living in unsafe or overwhelming conditions. This illustrates the path Director and Founder Laura Hastie took. In fact, it highlights her journey to become a BioHazard Cleaner.
What stayed with her wasn’t just the physical transformation of the homes — it was the emotional impact on the people living there.

The sense of someone finally stepping in to help.
